Abigroup prides itself on maintaining a safe working environment for staff, site visitors and for people, living, working and commuting in the area that they work.
With construction now underway, the corridor has been fenced off and signs posted indicating access is now restricted. These fences and signs should be observed as they are there for the protection of the community. There are many risks on a construction site that can pose a danger to people. Abigroup is controlling and managing these risks to keep these as low as reasonably possible to ensure the safety of its employees, contractors and the general public.
Employees have a number of requirements to complete before they can set foot or bring a machine onto the worksite. Project inductions outline general safety hazards and controls and legal safety requirements. Every person on the site must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This includes wearing a hard hat, safety eyewear, steel capped boots, full length high visibility clothing and task-specific equipment such as gloves.
Pre-start meetings are held daily to discuss activities and possible issues. All staff working on site must attend these meetings. A daily Job Hazard Analysis Card is also prepared which identifies any additional hazards and safety controls that may be different for that particular day. Staff must sign off that they have attended and understood the contents of these briefings. Safety initiatives also apply to visitors coming on site. They must undergo a brief visitor induction highlighting the hazards of the site and safety measures that must be observed. They also have to wear the required clothing and be accompanied by project staff at all times.
