Safety

Abigroup is committed to controlling and managing risk to as low as reasonably possible to ensure the safety of its employees, contractors and the general public.  The project corridor is a construction site and a range of occupational health and safety laws apply.  Fences and signs are installed along the project corridor and should be observed as they are there for the protection of the community.

Employee Safety

Employees have a number of requirements to complete before they can set foot on or bring a machine on to the worksite.

  • Project inductions that outline general safety hazards and controls and legal safety requirements must be completed by every person.
  • Every person on the site must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).  This includes the wearing of a hard hat, safety eyewear, steel capped boots, full length high visibility clothing along with task specific PPE.
  • Every person in the workgroup must attend the daily pre-start meeting to discuss the activities and possible issues anticipated for the day.  A daily Job Hazard Analysis Card is prepared which identifies any additional hazards and safety controls that may be different for that particular day.
  • People who are working at a particular job for the first time must work through the Safe Work Methods Statement and discuss as necessary.
  • If items of plant and equipment are involved, additional requirements involving the plant risk assessment, operating instructions and checklists are worked through to ensure the machine is in s safe condition to operate.

All safety documents are living documents and changes can be made at any time if better and safer ways are found

Visitor Safety

Visitors coming on site also have safety requirements to follow.  They will be accompanied at all times and are there to observe but not carry out work.  Visitors must:

  • undergo a brief Visitor Induction
  • wear the required PPE (hard hats, steel cap boots, high visibility vests)
  • follow all safety procedures.
