Construction

Peninsula Link is a three year project with construction due for completion in early 2013.  The construction program has been developed to minimise the amount of time required to complete the project and therefore minimise disruptions to the community.

The project has been designated into six construction zones with construction occurring in each zone simultaneously.

Within this area of the website is a range of information to keep you up to date with what is occurring in your area.  This includes information on:

Working hours

Normal working hours are:

  • 6am to 7pm Monday to Friday
  • 7am to 7pm on Saturdays.

Works may be required outside of these hours for safety or for other reasons. These activities will require community consultation before proceeding.

Construction program

The general sequence of construction activities is:

  • Preparatory works (geotechnical testing, utility services proving, survey )
  • Clearing and fencing
  • Structures (bridges, overpasses, culverts)
  • Earthworks
  • Roadworks
  • Noise walls, lighting, barriers, gantries, traffic lights, linemarking, signs
  • Vegetation planting
  • Asphalting

You can view videos and photography showing construction progress on the Linking Melbourne Authority Website.

Pre-construction surveys

Pre-construction inspections are conducted on buildings within a buffer zone along the construction alignment (as well as other buildings where considered appropriate). In addition to the residence or place of business, the inspections may include sheds, garages, paths, fences and gardens.

Southern Way offers owners with property within the buffer zone along the construction alignment the opportunity to have a pre-construction inspection at Southern Ways expense.

Pre-construction surveys for major projects have been a regular practice in Victoria for many years. The purpose of these inspections is to document the condition of a property prior to construction and to provide a worthwhile reference document in the unlikely event that the property is later considered to have experienced adverse effects as a direct result of construction activities.
